It’s Art But It’s Not project, led by RCT Homes, Valleys Kids and Artes Mundi, takes place in and around Porth, Penygraig and Trebanog. The project has invited artists to work with communities to explore the areas they live in creative and interesting ways; developing artworks and contributing to regeneration and environmental improvements. It’s Art But It’s Not is part of Ideas: People: Places, an Arts Council of Wales funding initiative that aims to bring together people and organisations to drive ideas that put the arts at the heart of communities.
RCT Homes is a community mutual organisation, a unique model promoted by the Welsh Assembly Government to produce community-owned-and-controlled housing. RCT Homes is committed to much more than simply allocating housing and collecting rents, they promote community involvement and support economic regeneration and the development of the communities they serve.
Valleys Kids has a 35 year long successful track record of innovative community development initiatives. One of the organisation’s core beliefs is that everyone should have the opportunity to move from dependence to independence regardless of social, economic or geographic disadvantage. With this in mind they have actively worked to change the lives of thousands of individuals across the South Wales Valleys.
Artes Mundi is an international arts organisation based in Cardiff, UK. Established in 2002, Artes Mundi is committed to supporting ground-breaking, international, contemporary, visual artists whose work engages with social reality and lived experience. The Artes Mundi Exhibition and Prize takes place biennially, running a sustained programme of outreach and learning projects alongside the public exhibition.
